Subject: Preparing for the bird survey
Dear volunteers,
Thank you for offering to help with Northbridge Nature Club's bird survey next month. The information we collect will help the town decide which parts of the park need better protection. Last year, several groups visited the same areas, and some birds were counted more than once. This time, each group will receive a map showing a separate area. Please stay inside the area marked on your map, even if you see an interesting bird farther away.
We will hold a training workshop at the community center next Tuesday evening. A local guide will explain how to identify common birds and fill in the survey forms. If you cannot attend, you may watch a recording of the workshop on our website. In either case, please complete the short practice form and send it to us by Thursday. This will give us time to check that everyone understands the instructions before the survey.
You do not need to buy any equipment. We have enough binoculars for each pair of volunteers to share, although you are welcome to bring your own. Taking photographs is optional. If you are unsure which bird you have seen, describe its size and color on the form instead of guessing its name.
